Business Improvement Districts and Enterprise Zones

A Business Improvement District (BID) is a business led partnership, created through a ballot process, to deliver additional services to local businesses.

Ratepayers agree an additional levy to finance the BID, and decide on the way their money is spent to improve the local trading environment.

There are currently BIDS in:

Bury St Edmunds (West Suffolk Council area) - Our Bury St Edmunds
Lowestoft (East Suffolk Council area) - Lowestoft Vision
Newmarket (West Suffolk Council area) - Love Newmarket
Felixstowe (East Suffolk Council area) - Felixstowe BID

An Enterprise Zone (EZ) is a geographically defined area, agreed between a Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and the Government.

The EZ is designed to encourage business development and generate jobs through a combination of financial incentives and reduced planning restrictions.

There are currently Enterprise Zones in:

East Cambridgeshire District Council Enterprise Zone
West Suffolk Council - New Anglia Enterprise Zone
East Suffolk Council - New Anglia Enterprise Zone
